LAUREN
I become a human Alexa, watching over you in your home and controlling it for you. The performance begins with the installation of custom smart devices (including cameras, mics, locks, faucets, and appliances). Anything Alexa can do I can do better. I can understand you as a human and anticipating your needs and desires.
LAUREN is a meditation on the smart home, the tensions between intimacy vs privacy, convenience vs agency they present, and the role of human labor in the future of automation.
