[Setting: Downtown LA, 12am midnight. LAUREN is wishing she were dancing to electronic riddims. However, she is instead working on setting up a text message to database thing so that CASPER doesn't get upset that she has neglected to do anything for their project while she has been busy this week performing her life. She is alone.]
[LAUREN wakes up.]
[Before she even has much of a chance to get ready for the day, she thinks to herself: Maybe today I will just think about today. I will focus on the beauty I can find in any and every moment today. I will continue to look into Mindfulness in Plain English, and remember to treat the whole process as a game. I will enjoy today, because enjoying it is my choice.]
[LAUREN decides to wear non-running clothes on her run. She thinks about how running has become an industry. She considers how people have been running for at least the past quarter century without wicking, poly-pro, spandex, sport bras, i-pods or even a decent pair of Nikes. She lays in bed and ponders what will compose this non-running outfit that she will wear on her run. Will this affect her running performance? Will this draw surprised or disapproving looks from passers-by or will no one care? Will she even care? Excited to find out, she peruses her closet. . .]
LAUREN: Oh look here, these are nice, sturdy shoes. Maybe these will work. I know I have a pair of rainbow colored knee socks somewhere. Where is that button front blouse I used to wear to work?
[LAUREN is about to go out the door when her stomach lets out a loud growl.]
LAUREN: Since this is going to be a non-traditional run, I think I will have an egg for breakfast before I run today.
[She opens the refrigerator and gets out one egg and scrambles it quickly and throws it into the fry pan. Her first bite brings back a flood of memories of being forced to eat eggs everyday as a little girl. She takes a picture of herself eating it and emails it to her dad so he can post it on the refrigerator at home as a reminder of her feelings toward scrambled eggs whenever he feels the urge to offer her them for breakfast when she's home.]
LAUREN: Crap. Now I have to wait for the egg to digest before my run.
[LAUREN pulls out her laptop and checks her email for 20 minutes. She emails Ragini and Kate, confirming the date of their reunion.]
LAUREN: [In her email.] Kate, if you ditch us again this time for robots we will send roombas in our places to all future prearranged meetings.
[LAUREN goes for a 30 minute run to a part of town she hasn't yet run through.]
[On her way home she stops to pick up a copy of the New York Times. Once she arrives home, she will search the front section for any news about Google in China.]
[Setting: grad studio. LAUREN works furiously to get the python script done for tomorrow.]
[Setting: Hammer museum, 2pm. LAUREN attends Rachel Whiteread exhibit walkthrough. Just before leaving the exhibit, she decides to give her mom a call to tell her about an interesting exhibit that she saw. Dialing her mom at work. . . 612-767-5978. . .]
[Remembering it has been a while since she has had time to read something of her own choosing, she reads the book JEFF gave her for a while.]
[LAUREN stays late at the studio, working, but not worrying.]
LAUREN: [Leaving the studio.] Good night.
