One thing that is so interesting to me about this is how it really feels like the future is being written sometimes. Driving to pick up KFC, I was thinking how strange it was that I felt compelled to do this thing just because there is this link constructed in my mind between that action and that day’s script, and another link between that day’s script and the overall project, and some link between the whole project and something I feel is necessary to do in this world. I laughed thinking about how many layers of abstraction away eating a piece of KFC is from anything I care about on a deep level, yet how important to me it seemed to do. That, as long as I continued to do these things, my wiki script would continue to function as a future telling device.

It was fun to do the very scripted scene with my stand-in and remember how this is all about just playing, too. I was surprised she was so open to it, but then reminded that while doing strange and silly things can seem like a job to me sometimes, to others, it can be novel and exciting. This thought came back to me later that evening as I read psych papers for my metacog class and tried to imagine what it would be like to spend my days working in a lab and writing papers. As interesting as the material is, I really couldn’t fitting myself into that kind of structure, and it made me appreciate again where I am and what I get to do everyday.

LAUREN wakes up.

LAUREN realizes this is the big Super Bowl Day and searches her closet for items to wear that would represent the Saints. She has no Saints team wear, obviously, so looks for anything with the team colors, or that has any reference to Saints, saint, saint-like, etc. She makes a sign that says, WHO DAT? and pins it to her shirt. She will wear this all day until the game is over.

Lauren uses the word Lover 7 times throughout the day.

[A LAUREN STAND-IN brings LAUREN a Sunday newspaper, a hot beverage, and a rock. ]

LAUREN: Oh! Coffee (or tea or cocoa)! A paper! A rock! All the ingredients for a perfect day. Sheesh! I love Sundays!

[LAUREN STAND-IN plumps up the pillows and LAUREN settles in to read the paper and enjoy the hot beverage.]

LAUREN reads paper until she’s read enough. She gets up when she’s good and ready to do so and goes about regular morning routine.

At some point, LAUREN opens laptop and checks online, “instructions how create debris shelter.”

LAUREN STAND-IN is washing breakfast dishes offstage. Sounds of water running and splashing.

LAUREN: Note to self; this is something my colleagues may want to construct with me.

LAUREN STAND-IN (offstage): Remind me to ask if one of those guys wants to construct one with me this week.

LAUREN: Oh! And I need to go get ingredients to make an almond cake later today. Or hmmm, maybe a ginger cake. I’ll decide while I’m at the store.

LAUREN STAND-IN (offstage): Maybe get some kale too. Craving some greens.

LAUREN: OK. Hey did you decide which movie to see?

LAUREN STAND-IN (offstage): Um, not yet. What do you want to see?

LAUREN: I don’t know. What do YOU want to see?

LAUREN STAND-IN (offstage, sounds of rummaging around in a closet or something): Blergh, maybe something with….with…who’s that actress?

LAUREN: Give me a hint.

LAUREN STAND-IN (offstage, louder sounds of rummaging): (says something but audience can’t hear what it is).

LAUREN: Oh, ya. Yeah, let’s.

[LAUREN gets dressed and goes running.]

LAUREN does a search of ‘Temple Grandin’. She also searches to see if a download is available of the HBO movie that aired last night. She decides to give her mom a call.

LAUREN: So, exactly how does Temple Grandin remind you of me?

SUE: Well, let’s just say there are a lot of endearing qualities about the girl. Besides, I thought you might be interested in this autism aspect and maybe there is some relation to your ‘better social interacting projects’? What did you think of the ‘hug-machine’?

[LAUREN calls a friend from high school and reads him/her a short poem she has written.]

Around 3:00 p.m. CST: LAUREN picks up a celebratory piece of Kentucky Fried Chicken to eat while watching the Super Bowl. She will eat this and it will bring back fond memories of watching football when she was a child.
