SCRIPT

Today’s script called for a stunt double for psych class, and after having no luck asking everyone I knew, I headed to class stunt doubleless; I’d have to try asking a random person I didn’t know when I got there. Talking to someone I don’t know is one of the most difficult things for me, and I had no idea how this could possibly work out. I’d spent most of the day dreading the whole thing.

Standing in the lobby of Franz Hall, I nervously looked around for someone that looked not too busy and kind of like me. Several times I almost asked someone, getting several steps away from them with my mouth open before abruptly side-stepping to walk past them at the last minute. As the clock over the elevator ticked down to a couple minutes before curtain call, I realized it was time to act.

Spotting two idle-looking girls, I quickly approached and started trying to describe my project and what I needed from one of them. Stumbling over my words and visibly sweating profusely, I finally finished and paused for their reactions. They both stared at me for a second, then one girl said, “wow, this is really hard for you to ask me this, isn’t it?” “YES!” I gasped, “so will you help?” Surprisingly, they were open to it, and the scene proceeded smoothly.

40 minutes later I sat in class, the cold sweat finally drying, and smiled thinking about how I had built this small event into such an excessively dramatic one in my head, and how I’d gotten past it anyway.



[Setting: bedroom, 6am. LAUREN wakes up.]

[LAUREN buys some flowers for someone else.]

[LAUREN'S STUNT DOUBLE performs some of LAUREN'S tricky and/or dangerous actions this afternoon. LAUREN watches from a safe distance.]

[LAUREN and LAUREN’S STUNT DOUBLE are dressed somewhat similarly but aren’t necessarily look-alikes.]

[Setting: Franz Hall, 1:55pm. LAUREN and LAUREN'S STUNT DOUBLE arrive slightly early for LAUREN'S metacognition class. As students walk in, LAUREN'S STUNT DOUBLE gives each a hug - some are short, some border on awkwardly long.]

LAUREN’S STUNT DOUBLE: [after each hug] Just because.

[Setting: CASEY's office, 4pm. LAUREN and CASPER meet with CASEY.]

[Setting: Broad Art Center, EDA, 5:30pm. LAUREN attends Maywa Denki performance.]

LAUREN comes home and watches some of the Olympics. She knows her Dad will probably be sitting on the couch watching it and decides to text something to him about it.
